The European voice for informal carers

A former young carer from Italy needs your help to achieve her dream

In this video Stefania Buoni, president of COMIP – Figli Di Genitori Con Un Disturbo Mentale – CHILDREN OF MENTALLY ILL PARENTS, Italian NGO, presents the project called “Quando Mamma o Papà Hanno Qualcosa Che Non Va” (“When Mum or Dad Are Unwell”), that last 21st december 2018 has gained the patronage of AGIA, the Italian Authority for Children and Adolescents.

Stefania has started a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe to fulfill her Dream: helping young carers who have one or both parents suffering from a mental illness to let them know they are not alone, to support them and to eradicate the huge stigma that still surrounds mental health! But she can’t make it on her own. She needs our help. Please, take two minutes to watch her video – ENG subtitles available- and discover how you too can help her!

Donations collected through GoFundMe will allow Stefania to reprint her book for young carers children of parents dealing with a mental health problem and distribute it all across Italy to public libraries, schools, psychiatric services, parish recreation centers, foster homes and all associations and institutions dealing with children and adolescents dealing with their parents’ mental ill health.

Donations will also help her organize awareness raising events in Italian high schools and/or in foster homes or in youth sports/cultural/recreational centers with experts by experience as peers, all former young carers and adult daughters and sons of parents with a mental illness part of the ngo CHILDREN OF MENTALLY ILL PARENTS – COMIP.

Any contribution, big or small, will help Stefania get closer to her Dream.

And if you share her campaign with your friends, your family, your colleagues this will help her a lot, too!

Thank you in advance for your help. Your contribution is important for this specific project and overall to move towards policies and practices across Europe that support and empower young carers!
