On 5 October 2016, the Belgian organisation Jeunes Aidants proches has organised a second study day on young carers.
There are many young carers. They support a family member, a relative, a sibling who is in a situation of dependency as a result of an accident, illness, disability or addiction.
This second study day aimed to contribute to addressing the situation of young carers by:
- Developing a cross-cutting policy approach (Disability, education, health, Youth);
- Initiating effective partnerships between different stakeholders working with families affected by the situation of dependency;
- Illustrating what a methodology through case management and coordination of psycho-social assistance to carers would look like.
The study day gave the floor to young carers and professionals with experience of supporting these young people. This event builds on the experience of the Brussels Platform for Young carers, which is made of some 60 associations.
