Care Alliance Ireland were pleased to welcome representatives from two European organisations at the recent one day seminar entitled “Supporting Your Delivery of High Quality Family Carer Training”, which took place on Monday 7th November 2016 in Dublin, Ireland.
Ms Petya Bancheva (Alzheimer Bulgaria) and Mr Ivar Paimre (NGO Estonian Carers) took part in the seminar, which focussed on best practice in the sphere of Family Carer training. Fourteen organisations across Ireland and Europe presented their experience in providing and planning for such training, with input from those supporting Family Carers in diverse sectors such as dementia care, mental health, intellectual disability, autism and palliative care.
Hearing from our European colleagues was eye-opening to many in attendance, many of whom would have been unaware of the situation for Family Carers in countries such as Estonia and Bulgaria. Seeing the successful initiatives from our European colleagues was inspiring.
In addition to the presentations from seminar attendees, Care Alliance Ireland was pleased to launch a new web initiative- www.familycarertraining.ie. The purpose of this website is twofold; to provide information on best practice in developing educational resources to organisations, and also to house a database of training and educational supports available to Family Carers in Ireland and online.
This project was approved by the Irish Government with support from the Dormant Accounts Fund. Many thanks to Eurocarers for their support to enable members to take part in this initiative.
