Movisie, member of Eurocarers, is taking up the research work package in the ‘Alliance Together it works!’. This alliance consists of a consortium of five NGO’s: Foundation Clara Wichmann (legal research), Movisie (intervention research), the Dutch Women’s Council (NVR), WO=MEN (advocacy) and WOMEN Inc. (lead and advocacy). The Dutch ministry of Education, Culture and Science is financially enabling the alliance. The strategic goal of the alliance is that in 2022 all men and women in the Netherlands, especially women in financially vulnerable situations, use the possibilities to combine paid work and unpaid care.

In the Netherlands, relatively little is known about carers whose financial situation is precarious. Informal care can be a roadblock to a paid job. Women with insufficient education or work experience for today’s labour market, have very limited opportunities to find paid work, and combine this with their unpaid care tasks, and enhance their financial situation. The Alliance Together It Works! will perform action research together with women from the target group and improve interventions aimed at lowering the threshold to the labour market for these women.

The project is not only aimed at paving the way to paid work, but also at improving the situation of women who already have work. In the Netherlands there is a growing population of ‘working poor’ who are also involved in care tasks. Because they can only attain small parttime jobs or fulltime lowpaid work, they get stuck in a financial vulnerable situation. The care they provide is under pressure because of this. By paving the way to better paid work, the alliance also creates more favorable conditions for informal caregiving, for both men and women.
