Passing of Marijke Steenbergen

It is with great sadness that we heard about the passing of Marijke Steenbergen on Thursday 23 August 2018.

Marijke was the Director of one of our member organisations in the Netherlands – MOVISIE, she was a very dynamic, enjoyable and inspiring colleague. She also served on the Eurocarers Board between 2013 and 2016, the year when she was forced to put her professional life on hold to deal with a serious health condition. Following a temporary recovery, her illness returned and her health deteriorated rapidly. Marijke passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.

After studying social-cultural sciences (cum laude) at Utrecht University, Marijke joined this university as a researcher and lecturer in organizational and policy issues with a specific focus on ‘steering and change in the non-profit sector’. In 1994 she obtained her doctorate for a study into the consequences and the significance of striving for more cohesion and cooperation in the Dutch health care system. In1997 she became Board of Directors of Schakels, a provincial knowledge institute and consultancy in the field of welfare and care, and then at the national level Board of Directors of CIVIQ and Movisie respectively.
