Presentation of new member from Spain: Asociación Cuidadores Familiares

We are a small NGO active within the Valencian Community in Spain. For the past 10 years, we have been supporting family caregivers by providing services and resources that improve their working conditions, so that caring is rewarding and carers are willing to continue caring. The motto of our association is "Family Caregivers, so you can continue to care".

WHO ARE FAMILY CAREGIVERS
In our country, most families take care of their elders in their home, trying to address their needs as much as they can.
Often the difficulties of these "family caregivers" exceed the capacity of their goodwill. They may feel overwhelmed and therefore give care with fear and anxiety. Often, this task leads to a deterioration of their physical and mental health.
In our Association, we think that these anonymous caregivers should get recognition and support, for the added value they bring to our society through their generous effort and dedication.

WHAT WE DO
The activities we develop relate to different aspects of informal carers’ needs. We offer training, orthopaedic material, psychological support through therapeutic groups, personalised assessment and guidance, respite care.

OUR IDEAL PARTNERSHIP
We are a small team of professionals who volunteer their time in order to support family caregivers. Caregivers who have been supported by our association often join the team as volunteers after the end of the period. This cooperation is especially valuable because they convey their own experience which makes them even more able to offer an effective accompaniment.
We think that the best place to grow and die is the family, this is the fundamental idea which drives us to get involved in supporting caregivers, so that they can care for their loved ones till the end of life.
