CARE4CARE – From precarious to secure working conditions in personal care in Austria
On January 24, 2025, a representative from the Chamber of Caregivers in Slovakia participated in a panel discussion on “Safe Migration and the Needs of Caregivers” at the Care4Care Conference in Vienna.
The primary objective of the CARE4CARE project is to analyze and compare the working conditions of caregivers from the perspective of trade unions and organizations, as well as how caregivers themselves perceive their work environments across six EU countries: France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Sweden. The project aims to develop effective tools to enhance working conditions and reduce discrimination in the care sector.
The conference, titled CARE4CARE – From Precarious to Secure Working Conditions in Personal Care in Austria, focused on key topics such as:
- Findings from a survey on caregivers’ working conditions in select EU member states
- The 24-hour care model in Austria
- Employment conditions and conflicts of interest among agencies, families, and self-employed caregivers
- Risks associated with agency work for migrant caregivers
- Austrian regulations that contradict European Commission legislation on working time, followed by a discussion on potential solutions
Additionally, Mrs. Danka Grafik and Mrs. Iveta Ždiľová participated in the conference online.
This event provided valuable insights into the challenges caregivers face and highlighted the need for improved policies to ensure fair and secure working conditions in the care sector.
