CPME – European Doctors’ Perspective On AI Implementation In Health Care

CPME – European doctors’ perspective on AI implementation in health care

European doctors recognise the impact of the digital transformation on medical practice and the potential of AI to become a unique instrument in this set of emerging health care tools. However, its confident and effective use depends on understanding its advantages and limitations.

The Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME) adopted its position on AI in health care on 16 November 2019.

“We call on policymakers to include CPME in the relevant advisory bodies at EU level and national medical associations at national level” says Prof. Dr Frank Ulrich Montgomery, President of the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME).  “To implement AI with proven benefits for health care can only work if the doctors’ perspective is integrated in its design and development. Also, the professional oversight over AI clinical validation and usefulness must be ensured, once AI applied in health care delivery.”
