The European voice for informal carers

MIPAA+20 – A sustainable world for all ages

The UNECE Ministerial Conference on Ageing 2022 took place in Rome, Italy, from 16 to 17 June 2022. The Conference completed the fourth review and appraisal cycle (2018-2022) of the implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) and its UNECE Regional Implementation Strategy (RIS), both adopted in 2002. The event also marked the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the MIPAA and RIS. At this occasion, representatives of Eurocarers were invited to contribute to the agenda of the conference by shedding light on the situation and needs of carers in Europe and by highlighting relevant solutions to support them. The event brought together more than 350 participants from 45 countries, with 32 ministers in attendance.

The theme of the Conference was “Joining forces for solidarity and equal opportunities throughout life”. Conference panels addressed this theme through the lens of:

  1. Promoting active and healthy ageing throughout life
  2. Ensuring access to long-term care and support for carers and families
  3. Mainstreaming ageing to advance a society for all ages

The conference conclude with a Ministerial declaration on ageing accompanied by a Joint declaration of civil society and scientific research.
