Project “Gottardo” – A Light For Forgotten Children!
In Switzerland, around 8 per cent of children and adolescents aged 10 to 15 care for parents or siblings at home – over 51,000 children and young people! These young carers do an enormous amount of work, mostly in secret. Out of shame, they hardly ever accept help. With the project “Gottardo” campaign, we want to make the population aware of these “young carers” and to raise money to bring light into their everyday lives.
The aims of the project are:
- To provide the population with broad information on young carers in Switzerland
- Easy access to better counselling and care for young carers
- Support and relief for young carers and their families
- Promoting the healthy development of these children and young people
The Lions Club are raising money with a week-long march from 11 – 18 September 2021. They will carry a light from Basel and Chiasso to Lucerne.
