Upcoming Social Summit in Porto: Eurocarers urges Member States to commit to implement the European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan
Eurocarers strongly believes that the Action Plan to implement the European Pillar of Social Rights released by the European Commission provides a roadmap to a more equitable and social Europe and resonates well with EU citizens, especially in the context of the current pandemic and its economic aftermath.
In addition, we strongly believe that this Plan provides the appropriate context for the development of a much-needed comprehensive and ambitious EU Strategy on Care and Caring, addressing both formal as well as informal care provision.
Therefore, in a letter sent to the Portuguese Presidency today, we insist that Member States commit to implement this Action Plan at the Porto Social Summit on 7-8 May and act upon it. Eurocarers’ national members also wrote to their heads of state and government along the same line.
The time is right for the EU to come forward with a comprehensive ambition on long-term care, we should not let the opportunity offered by the European Pillar of Social Rights Action Plan go to waste.
