Balancing Work and Care: International Challenges and Irish Perspectives
This briefing paper examines the challenges related to the reconciliation of work and care, both for carers and for employers, in Ireland, situating the discussion within an international context. Such reconciliation is, given demographic trends, a pressing social and economic issue with which both carers and employers must reckon, and which societies and the market must recognise and address. The paper also highlights significant knowledge and research gaps in Ireland, and gender and socioeconomic disparities in caring, and makes the case for better support of employees who are balancing work with caring obligations.
