ESA – Patient Safety Policy Summit: Improving Outcomes, Preventing Harm
The European Society of Anaesthesiology (ESA) and its partners are organising an event ” Patient Safety Policy Summit: Improving Outcomes, Preventing Harm “, under the patronage of the Croatian Presidency of the EU, which will take place from 3-4 March in Brussels.
Patient safety has emerged as a public health topic, aiming to prevent and limit the burden of harm for patients resulting from unsafe care in medical procedures and healthcare-associated risks. In the EU, however, more than a quarter of citizens admit having an adverse experience while seeking healthcare. Therefore, and to mark the 10th anniversary of the Helsinki Declaration on Patient Safety in Anaesthesiology, which aims to promote best practices in perioperative care, the event will bring together medical experts, policymakers, patient organisations and industry representatives to discuss how to ensure optimal outcomes in perioperative care, no matter where patients seek treatment in the EU. The objective of the Summit is to seek endorsement from European policymakers on the need for a common patient safety approach to perioperative care, culminating with the formal endorsement of a consensus statement.
The event will look into best practices in perioperative care, data collection, patient data management systems, the importance of promoting multidisciplinary team-work and implementing comprehensive education and training programmes, as well as the importance of embedding the patient perspective in perioperative care.
Registrations for the event are now open! If you are interested in joining on March 3 and 4, please register here .
