The European voice for informal carers

Gender Dimensions of Care – An Irish Perspective

To mark European Carers Day, Family Carer’s Ireland today launched a paper on ‘Gender Dimensions of Care – An Irish Perspective’. This paper explores the current gender care gap in Ireland, the evolving family unit and how this is changing the gender dynamics of care. It also looks at the causes of the care gap, the impact of care on women, including the gender pay and pension gap, and the impact of caregiving on women’s health. The report concludes by setting out solutions to help address the gender care gap, ensuring that there is a more equal division of care among women and men and between the State and families.
