The European voice for informal carers

Improving elderly care one step at a time – the EMPROVE project continues

The quality of care provided to the elderly is an increasingly important topic in European countries as well as on a global scale. Funded by the Erasmus+ programme, the EMPROVE project (EMpowering PROfessional RelatiVEs in Europe) aims to address the growing need for healthcare professionals in this field by introducing the profession of Geriatric Manager (also known as “Professional Relative”).

The project started in November of 2022 and five organisations from Romania, Greece, Italy and Bulgaria are involved in its implementation. They are tasked with fulfilling several key objectives. First, the existing curricula for healthcare professionals in each partner country were analysed and a comprehensive training manual was developed to address any educational gaps. Furthermore, the manual contains basic information on topics such as home safety, providing emotional support, improving quality of life and managing healthcare services, and aims to train skills that are necessary in this field of work.

The next stage of the project involves the development of an e-learning platform where all of the training content will be uploaded and freely available in the languages of all partner countries, as well as in English. Interactive tasks and exercises will make sure that the materials are more easily understandable and based in practice. The platform is currently undergoing its pilot testing before it can be shared officially.

The results of the project will be presented during multiplier events held in each of the partner countries, as well as online to ensure that as many people as possible have access to these useful and valuable materials. We look forward to sharing the final products of our work in the following months, but in the meantime you can keep up with the latest developments via the project’s social media.
