The gender dimension of informal care
Across the EU, 80% of care is provided by informal carers. A majority of them are women as informal carers are typically spouses, middleaged daughters or daughters-in-law. This publication looks at the root causes and impact of the unequal distribution of caregiving responsibilities between men and women. It sheds light on the various reasons why urgent action is needed and suggest a few policy pointers to achieve gender equality in care and caring.
