Launch of a new Position Paper by the Social Platform: A Well Being Economy
The EU treaties make it clear, wellbeing is a core objective. However, our current economic system, designed to promote economic growth, is neither inclusive nor sustainable. Why is our economic system missing the mark? Research examining the relationship between income and wellbeing shows that we cannot rely on growth alone to ensure people’s wellbeing. In fact, there is only a minimal association between GDP growth and the increase of life satisfaction across countries.
Rather than treating economic growth as an end in itself, the paper invites to rethink economic frameworks around 5 core values to build a wellbeing economy that prioritises human and environmental wellbeing.
- Purpose;
- Fairness;
- Dignity;
- Nature;
- Participation.
