”Caring for Caregivers” Kalamata, Greece
‘The Greek Carers Network EPIONI is pleased to share the success of its 11th “Caring for Caregivers” workshop, held on April 23rd in Kalamata, bringing together more than 150 caregivers and health professionals.
The event highlighted the real biological and emotional impact of caregiving. Key contributions included Dr. Christina Dalla, who addressed the gender gap in mental health, noting that women are disproportionately affected by depression; Dr. Konstantinos Siarkos, who presented data from Messinia showing the significant burden on caregivers, particularly within the “sandwich generation”; and Dr. Konstantina Kyrkou, who introduced the concept of the caregiver as the “invisible patient,” impacted by chronic stress and its biological effects. Psychologist Vina Giannopoulou emphasised that resilience is a skill that can be cultivated through adaptability and positive coping strategies.
The workshop concluded with a moving panel discussion featuring local caregivers, moderated by Panagiota Anagnostopoulou (IASIS AMKE), who shared their lived experiences and highlighted the importance of recognition and support.
EPIONI extends its sincere thanks to the Captain Vassilis & Carmen Constantakopoulos Foundation, the Municipality of Kalamata, and all partners for their valuable support in making this event possible.
