The European voice for informal carers

Homes4Life and age-friendly housing

Eurocarers is a partner in this Homes4Life project that in a 2-year period aims to develop a European certification scheme for age-friendly housing. In December it reached its halfway mark. For more info, see the Homes4Life video here.

Desk research and stakeholder consultations were conducted in the first year, to assist in the process of constructing a basic shared descriptive language around the concept of age-friendly housing. This taxonomy consists of a structured and detailed description of what it means for a home to be age-friendly.

Based on this working taxonomy, functional performance indicators have been developed that translate what the home, its components need to be able to do to fulfil a function that contributes to an age-friendly environment that is enabling, fit for purpose, flexible and resilient.

The next phase of this EU-funded Horizon 2020 project will be to now test these Homes4Life indicators in different “certification pilots” across Europe to see what works and how it can be adapted for the different housing markets.
