Informal Carers Week is back in French-speaking Belgium

Eight days of activities offered by professionals for informal carers: this is the philosophy behind Informal Carers Week, which will celebrate its 13th edition in French-speaking Belgium.

Organized by the non-profit organization Aidants Proches, it will take place this year from Monday, September 28th to Sunday, October 4th inclusive.

The aim of the event is simple : to provide a respite to those who support daily a loved one experiencing a loss of physical or mental autonomy in Wallonia and Brussels, whether due to age, illness, or disability. It also provides valuable media attention to highlight the often complex realities of their experiences. And, through them, to raise awareness among policymakers about the need to improve the status of informal carers, who number around 850.000 in the central and southern regions of the country.

None of this would be possible without the tremendous commitment of dozens of partners. Associations, services, mutual insurance companies, hospitals… All are working together to offer a variety of activities, most of which are free of charge. There’s something for everyone: conferences, film screenings followed by discussions, forest walks, massages, support groups, themed workshops…
