November 20, 2026: 6th National Day of Action for Child and Adolescent Caregivers
World Children’s Rights Day (November 20) serves as an annual day of action for the *Interessengemeinschaft pflegender Angehöriger* (Interest Group for Family Caregivers) with a specific focus on children and adolescents who provide care. The day aims to draw attention to the nearly one million family members and close associates who provide care – a group that includes at least 43,000 children and adolescents. Collectively, they constitute Austria’s largest care service provider.
“The 2026 focal theme of the Interest Group for Family Caregivers—’When the World Falls Apart: Supporting Family Caregivers and Close Associates in Disaster and Crisis Management’—affects not only adults but also children and adolescents, known as ‘young carers.’
Often unrecognized and unknown, they do everything in their power within the home care setting to assist their relatives in need of care,” says Birgit Meinhard-Schiebel, President of the Interest Group for Family Caregivers (www.ig-pflege.at).
To raise awareness of this day, the Interest Group for Family Caregivers is distributing 50,000 promotional cards across Austria.
Naturally, the information on the cards remains relevant throughout the year:
The back of the cards lists contact details allowing family caregivers and close associates to get in touch with the Social Ministry’s citizen service or with the Interest Group directly.
