A fair deal for carers
European countries are increasingly recognising the crucial role of informal carers in response to rising care demands and workforce shortages. As a result, the ‘formalisation’ of informal care through contractual employment is becoming more prevalent. However, the success of these initiatives relies on a principled, rights-based, and balanced approach that considers multiple needs. This position paper outlines ten essential guiding principles identified by Eurocarers for designing and implementing contractual employment schemes as part of a ‘fair deal’ for carers.
