The perspective of family caregivers on the impact of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 on home-based care arrangements in Germany – Study launched in Germany
How are family caregivers coping with the current Corona pandemic since its outbreak? What particular social and psychological challenges do they face? What has changed in the provision of day-to-day care and support? What can be done to help family caregivers? These and other questions are addressed by a recently started research project in Germany.
The project is an initiative of a research team of the University of Bremen (Institute of Public Health and Nursing Care) and is conducted in cooperation with the insurance provider DAK-Health and the family carers association wir pflegen. With a nationwide online survey, the study examines the current challenges and resources in home care arrangements in Germany during the COVID 19 pandemic from the perspective of family carers. The family carers association wir pflegen was on the one hand participating in the development of the survey questionnaire and on the other hand provided its various networks, also via the social media, for the dissemination of the online survey. The field phase is scheduled to run until the end of June. First results can be expected in August. The results will be used to better understand the specific situation of family caregivers during the pandemic in order to facilitate support of family caregivers by policy makers.
