The European voice for informal carers

WHO online course to support informal carers now available in multiple languages

Eurocarers is pleased to highlight a new online training course developed by the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe, in collaboration with Eurocarers and with the support of the European Commission. This course represents an important step towards strengthening the recognition, support and empowerment of informal carers across Europe.

The course, titled “Care and Self-care Competences for Informal Caregivers in Europe”, is designed for anyone providing care to a family member, friend or neighbour (particularly those without formal training). It aims to equip informal carers with practical knowledge and skills to better support others while also safeguarding their own health and wellbeing.

Structured around two complementary modules—caring for yourself and caring for another—the training offers accessible, high-quality guidance that can also be used by organisations, public authorities and service providers to develop further support initiatives.

Importantly, the course is available in several languages, including English, French and Spanish with additional language versions being rolled out. This multilingual availability is key to ensuring that informal carers across Europe can access relevant and inclusive support resources, regardless of their linguistic background.

At a time when informal carers provide the vast majority of care in Europe, such initiatives are essential to building more resilient, inclusive and sustainable care systems.

We encourage our members and partners to explore the course and share it widely within their networks.
