Economic Contribution of Informal Care
Our colleague Prof. Dr. Andreas Hoff at the research institute “GAT – Health, Aging, Work, Technology” at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences responds with Working Paper GAT-WP 01/2025 to inquiries from the national association of caregiving relatives wir pflegen e.V. regarding the economic contribution of informal care services provided by caregiving family members and relatives. In this article, the GAT author team attempts to fill this gap in care statistics and to rigorously estimate the total cost of informal care using scientific methods. Even with a conservative estimate, the final result amounts to a total of over 200 billion euros annually.
