The European voice for informal carers

Register for Laurel webinar ‘New Competencies and Skills for Healthcare Professionals in Integrated Long-Term Care’, 26 November 3pm CET

As Europe’s population ages, the shift toward integrated, community-based, and digitally enabled long-term care is transforming what it means to be a healthcare professional. Nurses, therapists, social workers, and carers are being called on to collaborate across disciplines, use new digital tools, and provide care that is both person-centred and culturally sensitive.

This Laurel webinar will explore the evolving competencies and training needs of the long-term care workforce — and what it takes to build systems that empower professionals to deliver high-quality, connected care.

💡 What to expect

This webinar will be both an opportunity to learn and an opportunity to contribute to the Laurel project, as the outputs will feed into the actionable policies our project is developing.

Participants will hear from European experts and initiatives shaping the future of care skills, including:

  • Care4Skills Partnership for Integrated Long-Term Care, a European Commission-funded initiative designing new VET curricula on digital competence, person-centred care, and data protection.
  • Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) on building digital literacy and data-driven decision-making among healthcare professionals, informal carers, and patients.
  • European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research, sharing insights on diversity-sensitive education and training for staff supporting older people with migrant backgrounds.

Interactive segments — including live polls and a panel discussion — will invite participants to reflect on:

  • Which skills are most urgently needed to support integrated, people-centred long-term care
  • How to strengthen workforce training and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • How digital tools can enhance (rather than replace) human connection in care
