The European voice for informal carers

Successful CARE4DEM training event in Portugal in June

Last June, two Eurocarers’ members participated in the second Care4dem training organised in Amadora, Portugal.  The event gathered 12 representatives from  projects partners and 9 local participants coming from 4 non-profit organisations working with people with Dementia.

The training event aimed at preparing members of partners’ staff engaged in the piloting of the CARE4DEM model of an online Mutual Aid Group for informal carers of people with Dementia to start in September. It gave also the opportunity to professionals and volunteers from other organisations to know more about the tools developed through the CARE4DEM project and learn how they could make use of them in their own practice.

Participants worked together for 3 days of training, covering the planning of the training course for facilitators, the use of an online self-assessment tool and the creation of the methodology for the network of professionals. Participants also had the opportunity for a study visit to a local non-profit organisation who provides support to people with Dementia and has specific intervention programmes for their informal caregivers.

It was a great opportunity to exchange practices among all the participants and to deepen the work developed so far in the intellectual outputs.
