The European voice for informal carers

Wir Pflegen opens its fifth antenna in Germany

Wir Pflegen launched its fifth ‘Landesverein’ in Lower Saxony on 24 June 2023: wir pflegen in Niedersachsen. The aim of the state association is to network caring relatives in the state, to strengthen self-help structures and to help people in home care to have a strong voice and more relief at state and local level. In Lower Saxony, more than 542,904 people receive benefits from long-term care insurance.

“We will focus on the people who provide more than 80 per cent of all care in Lower Saxony. Family caregivers urgently need better support: more help on the ground, better financial protection, less bureaucracy and more relief. But those who care for a relative at home usually have too little time to stand up for their own interests. We are happy to be active as a state association for improvements in home care. In doing so, the voice of caring relatives must be legally integrated step by step into all regional and municipal care committees,” says board member Silvia Kaes. She cares for her father and knows the problems of caring relatives from her own experience.

More information on the demands of the association can be found in the press release on the founding of the association (in German): Press release
