The European voice for informal carers

These migrant women are reinventing the home care system

Great initiative: a group of eight migrant women, all carers, supported by the Migrant Rights Center in Ireland, set up The Great Care Coop: a carer-led cooperative to deliver great care to clients and promote great jobs for carers themselves.

The GCC focuses on the individual and on integrating their support circles in developing their care journey. All to ensure they remain independent and active in their local community.

Shane Liz, one of the Coop’s co-founder, said: “We are a group of migrant women who are professional caregivers, who designed the model based on decades of experience in care listening to clients and their unmet needs. Although our clients valued us, the companies we worked for did not.”

If you can support this worker-led initiative please like the GCC page on Facebook and follow them on Twitter!
