The European voice for informal carers

New report: Good Practices and Remaining Challenges in Supporting Informal Carers

Our colleagues from the European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research just published a report on the challenges in supporting informal carers. This report, which has been commissioned by the Swedish Ministry for Health and Social Affairs, analyses how countries with well-developed long-term care (LTC) systems support informal carers and the challenges they face in strengthening this support.

Using an international benchmarking approach, Finland, Germany, Lithuania and the Netherlands are examined as case studies. The study draws on expert interviews and literature to assess policies across four areas:

  • financial support,
  • social security,
  • care leave,
  • and carers’ well-being, including respite care.
