Genes4All reaches its first-year milestone
One year after its official launch, the Genes4All project www.genes4all.eu stays firmly on track with its mission to make genetic information and counselling more accessible for families affected by neurodegenerative disorders — bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and everyday life.
Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, Genes4All brings together experts from five European countries —Denmark, Germany, Greece, Spain and Türkiye— to explore how digital tools and gamification can improve understanding, communication, and decision-making in the field of genetically related neurodegenerative diseases. During its first year, the project has focused mainly on creating and piloting the Serious Game, involving participants, a total of 10 Health Care Professional and 15 relatives of people affected by a neurodegenerative disease, from across Europe to test and refine its design.
A year of collaboration and engagement
This first year has also highlighted the project’s strong commitment to stakeholder participation. Genes4All is built on the idea that meaningful progress in genetic literacy can only happen when all voices are heard. Guided by this principle, the consortium has organised focus groups with experts in the field and pilot sessions with relatives and non-professional caregivers across partner countries, gathering valuable perspectives that will ensure that all materials produced truly correlate with users’ needs and reflect inclusion, empathy, and clear communication.
Since its kick-off in October 2024, the consortium has worked intensively through regular virtual meetings and one in-person project meetings to coordinate progress and share expertise. During this period, partners have designed and tested the prototype of the Genes4All Serious Game, an interactive learning tool developed as a preparatory resource that allows users to explore real-life situations related to genetic counselling in an accessible and intuitive way. The project is expected to launch the final version of the game before summer 2026.
